a 2 week vacation to Costa Rica from Dec 12 - Dec 25, 2010 to escape the winter in Chicago - to San Jose, Tortuguero National Park, Arenal Volcano and the rainforest, Marino Ballena , Corcovado National Park, Manual Antonio National Park. Itinerary arranged by the wonderful folks at 'Costa Rica Expeditions' . Toucans, kayaking, the rainforest, hanging bridges, volcanoes, monkeys - spider monkeys, white faced capuchin monkeys, squirrel monkeys and howler monkeys, iguanas, lizards, caimans, and crocodiles, mosquito bites, hummingbirds, beaches and more !
Checked out of Playa Espadilla hotel in Manuel Antonio @8am, heading to Herradura near the Jacos beach for a Zip-lining experience.
Vista Los Suenos Canopy Tour in Herradura runs a zip-lining operation with 13 cables, the longest about 2400 feet. We were strapped into our harness, signed a waiver, then 16 of us started out in a blue tractor that drove up a mountain road to the beginning of the first cable. We were given preliminary instructions & we started off. V & K were in Group 1.
So V was the team leader, group leader, and the first person to zip for the day!!!
Zip-lining is absolutely awesome! You are flying on top of the trees, much faster than birds & at a much higher elevation. You put the stronger hand behind you on the cable, hold on to the three safety cables with the weak hand, and let go. The pulley on the cable & the gravity does the rest. You arrive at a tremendous speed at the next platform, where the cables are taken off, & you then go around the tree to the next cable which leads you to the next platform & so on, on & on for 12 cables!
It takes about 2 hours, and leaves you wanting for lots more! If we had done this on Day 1, we would certainly have repeated this several times during our stay. However, this being our last day in CR, memories & videos will have to suffice.
Zip-lining was certainly our most favorite activity in CR & we look forward to doing it again.
