July 16, 2006 - Flower close-ups.
PS- I was actually trying to do a Thusie today, but that low DOF she does often is not easy (as it seems when Thusie does it !)- controlling the background seems key as mine turned out to have ugly black blobs in places :)); so well, another day..today f22 !

on December 28, 2012Such detail. A true sense of softness is felt in this photo.

on July 18, 2006thanks all ! this was f22 on a tripod, pretty low shutter speed.I'm having a lot of fun with my extension tube :)I'll try the whole variety of f stops soon - I agree, I shouldn't just do the extremes at f22 and f1.8!

on July 17, 2006Vandana, Like Snappy I just don't have the light for f22 and because of the trees we always have a bit of wind so I need all the shutter speed I can get:-) The detail you got in the white isn't something to sneeze at, something much harder to do that it looks.

on July 17, 2006All that's missing is a bee sipping nectar. The yellow looks very inviting, no blown highlights on the whites, Good job.

on July 17, 2006Seems to me that you got it. Beautiful.

on July 17, 2006I usually get shallow depth of field with f/5.6. But, that's usually because I don't have enough light. You've got good light here and you got all the detail in the white. Now that's really something to be proud of. Fine shot!

on July 17, 2006Pretty! I think you did a great job. Don't you just love how inside the flower it looks like a bunch of little tiny flowers opening up? I wonder if there are even tinier flowers inside of those? I love the creaminess of the white in this shot. :)

on July 17, 2006I love the smaller curly petals to the left of the yellow center. Nice job! nothing wrong with F22 more margin for error ;-) NOTE:(If your going to try and play with DOF try starting with F8 and see what happens)

on July 17, 2006thanks, Thusie ! I do want to get some good low DOF ( 1.8 is the shallowest I can do yet)flower shots like yours, but have to work harder at it :)you've perfected the technique !
